Pinheiro , officially Portuguese Município de Pinheiro , is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Maranhão . The population was estimated as of July 1, 2019 at 83,387 inhabitants, who live on a community area of around 1513 km² and are called Pinheirenses ( pinheirenses ). The capital São Luís is 333 km away. Pinheiro ranks 12th out of 217 municipalities in the state.
The economy is dominated by agriculture and livestock. The Rio Pericumã reservoir ( Barragem do Rio Pericumã ) is located in the municipality ; the main river is the Rio Pericumã .
