Piotr Grella-Możejko

Piotr Grella-Możejko (born March 15, 1961 in Bytom ) is a Polish composer.

Between 1977 and 1983 Grella-Możejko took private composition lessons from Edward Bogusławski and Bogusław Schaeffer . He studied political science at the Silesian University of Katowice (with Anna Mielczarek-Bober ) as well as literature (with Jonathan Locke Hart , Edward Dickinson Blodgett , Uri Margolin , Edward Możejko , Paul Robrechte and Milan V. Dimić ) and composition (with Alfred Fisher , Henry Klumpenhouwer and Christopher Lewis ) at the University of Alberta at Edmonton. He has lived in Canada since 1989.

In 1994 he was the only Canadian participant in the June in Buffalo Festival, where he took part in lectures and masterclasses by Milton Babbitt , Donald Erb , David Felder , Lukas Foss , Roger Reynolds and Charles Wuorinen . In the 1980s he was twice the winner of the all-Polish composition competition, and in 1991 he won the Pierre Boulez composition competition in Halifax. In 1997 he received the Alberta Motion Picture Industries Association (AMPIA) award in the film music / composition category.

Grella-Możejko composed orchestral works - including an organ and a saxophone concerto and a double concerto for violin and viola -, chamber music, choral works and works for solo instruments. He has also written articles for magazines such as Canadian Slavonic Papers , Contemporary Music Review , MusicWorks, and The Alberta New Music & Arts Review .
