Piotr Paleczny

Piotr Paleczny (born May 10, 1946 in Rybnik ) is a Polish pianist and winner of many piano competitions.

He began his piano lessons from 1953 to 1964 at the State Music School in Rybnik . 1965–1970 he studied at the Katowice Music Academy , then at the State University of Music (today Fryderyk Chopin University of Music ) in Warsaw with Professor Jan Ekier (1913–2014). He participated in many piano competitions:

  • International Piano Competition in Sofia (1968) - 1st prize
  • International piano competition in Munich (1969) - 3rd prize
  • 8th International Chopin Competition in Warsaw (1970) - 3rd prize and special prize for the best polonaise performance
  • International piano competition in Pleven (1972) - gold medal
  • Festival of Young Soloists in Bordeaux (1972) - Grand Prix and gold medal

Between 1985 and 2010, Paleczny was a member of the jury of the International Chopin Competition six times, and since 1993 he has held the post of Artistic Director of the International Chopin Festival in Bad Reinerz .

In 1998 he was appointed professor at the Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy (today Fryderyk Chopin University of Music).

He performed in many concert halls, including a. in the Carnegie Hall in New York City , the Suntory Hall in Tokyo , the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires , the Gewandhaus in Leipzig , the Berlin Philharmonie , the Wiener Musikverein , the Wiener Konzerthaus , the Festspielhaus Salzburg , the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and in the Royal Festival Hall in London .

Paleczny was awarded the Gloria Artis Medal for Cultural Merit and the Commander's Cross of the Polonia Restituta Order and the Mexican Order of the Aztec Eagle .
