The Pistojoki ( Russian Писта, Пистайоки, Валда, Пистаёки Pista, Pistajoki, Valda, Pistajki ) is a 110 km long river in Finland and Russia .
It has its origins in Lake Joukamojärvi in the municipality of Kuusamo in the Finnish countryside of Northern Ostrobothnia . From there it flows in an easterly direction, crosses the Russian border and then flows through the Republic of Karelia . There he turns a little later to the south. It flows through Lake Pistojärvi and finally reaches the western end of Verkhneje Kuito . The catchment area of the Pistojoki is 3190 km². The river forms a headwaters of the Kem , which drains the Kuito Lakes to the White Sea . Larger Finnish lakes that drain to Joukamojärvi are the Muojärvi and Kuusamojärvi .
