Pius Brunquell

Pius Brunquell OP (also Brunnquell ; * May 23, 1752 in Bamberg ; † August 27, 1828 ibid) was a German theologian and religious priest of the Dominican order .

Life

Brunquell began his studies at the Bamberg University . In the first phase of his studies, on July 24, 1770, he was accepted into the convent of the Dominican monastery in Bamberg . He was ordained a priest on June 30, 1775 . He completed his studies in theology as a Magister Theologiae ; In 1776 he held his Defensio in Mödingen Monastery and received his license to practice medicine on October 14, 1777 . He then devoted himself to studying law , which he did until 1779.

Padre Pius received a chair for philosophy in the Bamberg convent in 1780, where he taught logic and practical philosophy . He also introduced mathematics teaching in the convent. He later became a theology teacher. In 1792 or 1793 he was elected prior . He improved the financial situation of the monastery and was re-elected several times. With the abolition of the monastery in the course of secularization in 1803, Brunquell worked as a secular priest at Bamberg's Martinskirche . In addition, he devoted himself increasingly to writing.

After Brunquell took office, he became an advisor to the Archbishop of Bamberg, Count Joseph von Stubenberg . In 1822 he donated his extensive library, which he had accumulated over decades, to the Bamberg Cathedral Chapter.
