The Piz Cristanas (also Piz Crist Annes , 3091  m above sea level. M. ) is one of the most important summits of Sesvenna . It is located northeast of S-charl in the Lower Engadine and southwest of the Schlinig Pass , the end of the Schlinig Valley in Vinschgau . The Piz Cristanas is located entirely on Swiss territory, only about 500 meters west of the state border with Italy . It is the highest peak in the mountain range that borders the Val Sesvenna in the north, which also includes the neighboring, slightly lower Piz Rims ( 3,067  m above sea level ), over which the border runs. The Piz Cristanas was mentioned as early as 1840 by the Austrian topographer Johann Jakob Staffler under the name Kristans and called a “mighty, outstanding colossus”.

Location and surroundings

The Piz Cristanas is the highest point of a mountain north of the Val Sesvenna . It sends three not particularly pronounced ridges. In the north-west it is separated from the Piz d'Immez ( 3033  m above sea level ) by the Fuorcla Cornet ( 2853  m above sea level ). The Fuorcla Cornet forms the end of the Val Cristanas , which extends from the saddle to the northeast and represents a side valley of the Val d'Uina . In the west ridge, the Piz Cornet ( 2971  m above sea level ) rises up a prominent pre-peak. The east ridge connects the Piz Cristanas with the Piz Rims ( 3,067  m above sea level ).

Ascent

The usual ascent is from the east, from the Fuorcla Sesvenna ( 2819  m above sea level ), crossing the peaks Schadler ( 2948  m above sea level ) and Piz Rims ( 3067  m above sea level ). The ascent of the ridge is not difficult , from the Schadler to Piz Rims you lose less than 50 meters in height, from Piz Rims you are always above 3000 meters. The Fuorcla Sesvenna can be reached on the one hand from the South Tyrolean side through the Schlinigtal and over the Sesvennahütte , and also from the Lower Engadine of S-charl through the Val Sesvenna . It takes about 3½ hours to get to the summit from the Sesvennahütte, 4½ hours from S-charl.
