The Munich architect Florian Herzog, a single father of one son, becomes unemployed due to the bankruptcy of his employer, and he is also in debt. He moves to a cheaper area and hires at a pizzeria. Soon he gets into problems with his choleric boss Claudio. In his house he meets the Arabic professor Edgar, who gives home-made jam to the roommates. In the pizzeria, Florian meets Lucia Blumenberg.
