Pyotr Alexandrovich Druzhinin ( Russian Петр Александрович Дружинин , Petr Aleksandrovič Druzhinin ); * March 29, 1974 in Moscow is a Russian - Israeli historian and writer , book scholar and expert on antiquarian books and manuscripts .

Career

Druzhinin graduated from the Stroganov State University of Applied Arts in Moscow in 1996 with a degree in art history . From 1999 to 2002 he attended the graduate school at the MIREA State Technical University, Institute for Solid State Physics (The History of Physics ), Moscow. From 2006 to 2009 he did his doctorate at the Russian State University for the Humanities , Moscow, on the subject of heraldry and bookbinding of the 17th to 20th centuries . In 2013 he was a research fellow at the University of Sheffield , UK. The subject of the research project was "The Journey of the Codex Sinaiticus from the Soviet Union to Great Britain". In 2014 he received the Efim Etkinds Prize, European University of Saint Petersburg , Russia “for outstanding contributions to the scientific, cultural and literary relations between Russia and the West” in his book “Ideology and Philology” Vol. 1–2. In 2016 he received the Udo Ivask medal and certificate of honor from the International Association of Ex-Libris Societies “for outstanding contributions to the bookplate study” for a series of monographs in book studies.

activities

Since 1990 Peter Druzhinin has held various positions in the departments of old books, manuscripts and copperplate engravings at auction houses in Moscow . He started as a trainee and gradually rose to higher levels, until he finally has been the chief expert at Moscow auction houses since 2006. Currently, Druzhinin is considered one of the most respected Russian specialists in the field of ancient books and manuscripts . He is also a collector of rare Russian old books and European copperplate engravings .

Academic work

Druzhinin has more than ten books and many articles on subjects such as: B. written the history of the humanities and the historical auxiliary sciences , the history of science , the hostility to Jews in the Soviet Union . These were published in scientific journals such as Russian Literature , Physik-Uspekhy (Advances in Physics) , New Literary Observer, and in the Russian Academy of Sciences' Yearbook Cultural Monuments: New Discoveries .

The book Books of Frederick the Great (2004), which summarized the results of many years of searches and scientific descriptions of the books printed by Frederick the Great and which belonged to the king himself, received scientific attention . These precious books were printed in small numbers and kept in the royal palaces in Berlin , Potsdam , Charlottenburg and Breslau . In 1945 they were brought to the Soviet Union as trophies and scattered. The appendix to the book published an unknown handwritten commentary by Voltaire on the works of Frederick the Great found by Peter Druzhinin.
