Pyotr Petrovich Vereshchagin
Pyotr Petrovich Wereschtschagin ( Russian Пётр Петрович Верещагин ; born January 14, 1834 or 1836 in Perm ; † January 16, 1886 in Saint Petersburg ) was a Russian painter , best known for his landscape paintings .
Life
Pyotr Petrovich Wereschtschagin, not to be confused with the war painter Vasily Vasilyevich Wereschtschagin , was the brother of the painter Vasily Petrovich Wereschtschagin (1835–1909). Initially he made a name for himself as a fresco painter . He later studied at the Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg, where he specialized in landscape painting. Pyotr Petrovich Wereschtschagin is one of the few painters of the second half of the 19th century who stylistically belongs to the school of Fyodor Jakowlewitsch Alexejew (around 1754-1824). Pyotr Vereschagin was particularly valued for his good perspective representation and views of landscapes and cities that were created while traveling through Russia and beyond. He came to Moscow , Saint Petersburg, Finland , the Crimean peninsula , the Caucasus , Kiev , Sevastopol and the Urals , among others . From 1868, the works he created on the way were often shown at exhibitions at the Academy. In 1873 he finally became an academician. Works by Pyotr Petrovich Wereschtschagin can be found today in the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow and in the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg.
