Plackenbruch is a district in the Katterbach district in Bergisch Gladbach .

history

The medieval settlement of Plackenbruch is documented for the first time in 1460 with the name tzo Plackenbroech . It is recorded in the original cadastre south of the Gewannes on the old road from Hülsen to Torringen (this is today's Kempener Strasse).

etymology

The defining word Placken is derived from the Middle High German placke / phlacke (= area, patch) and can designate a small piece of land or parcel / lawn in field names. The word Plackenbruch stands for either a small swampy piece of land or forest or a swampy pasture.
