Torringen is a district in the Katterbach district in Bergisch Gladbach .
history
The Torringen settlement was founded in the Middle Ages and included 11 farms in the late 18th century. It is recorded in the original cadastre in the area of today's street. After Hand with 14 and Nussbaum with 17 farms, Torringen was the third largest hamlet in the municipality of Paffrath . Torringen was first mentioned in 1400 as zo Torlyngen . In the Paffrather Red Missal it is recorded as torhyngen . In the early modern period one finds the terms Thuringen , Thöringen and the dialect version Durring . The current spelling Torringen can be found for the first time in 1758.
etymology
The oldest spelling zo Torlyngen means in dialect Westphalian zur Linden (tor Lyngen) and goes back to Paffrath pastors, who were born in Westphalia.
