Sträßchen Siefen is a district in the Katterbach district in Bergisch Gladbach .

history

The place Sträßchen Siefen was created before 1893 by merging the two hamlets of Sträschen and Siefen . It is recorded in the original cadastre in the area of the historical path that led from Paffrath to Siefen at the beginning of the 19th century (this is today's Kempener Straße). The early modern establishment of the Hofstelle Sträßchen near the confluence of the Odenthaler Markweg in today's street Sträßchen Siefen was followed by five further court foundations, which together formed a hamlet. Further to the west there was already the medieval hamlet of Siefen , which was mentioned around 1450 in the form of syfen .

etymology

The name Sträßchen indicates a settlement on the street. The natural name Siefen denotes a damp lowland or swampy spring basin with a small trickle flowing away. This is the upper reaches of the Katterbach .
