The Plattspitzen are a 2680 meter high mountain in the Wetterstein Mountains on the border between Germany and Austria . The very striking mountain stands as a southern counterpart to the Zugspitze at the opposite end of the plateau framing. The mountain has three peaks: the east summit, also known as the Gatterlspitz ( 2680 m ), the middle summit ( 2674 m ) and the west summit ( 2676 m ). It was first climbed in 1871 by Hermann von Barth , who single-handedly reached all three peaks from the Zugspitzplatt. At that time the mountain was also known under the name Wetterschrofen .
location
The mountain made of Wetterstein limestone is just under 3 kilometers south of the Zugspitze and is the southern cornerstone of the Zugspitze massif. One kilometer to the west are the higher, but significantly less prominent weather peaks ( 2746 m ). To the south, towards the Gaistal , the mountain has an approximately 700 meter high, very steep and rugged wall.
Base and ascent
The Plattspitzen can be climbed from the northeastern Knorrhütte ( 2052 m ) after crossing the Platt over the northwest ridge, partly in moderately difficult climbing (in places up to difficulty level UIAA III) . The walking time on this tour to the east summit is around five hours.
