First ascent | 1874, Hermann von Barth |
The Wetterwandeck is a 2698 m high peak in the Wetterstein Mountains . It is located south of the Zugspitze , above the southern snow fern in the ridge that includes the Zugspitzplatt . Neighboring peaks in the direction of the Zugspitze are the Eastern, Southern and Northern Wetterspitze , the Schneefernerkopf and the Zugspitzeck ; in the opposite direction, to the east, the ridge is followed by the Wettererscharte (2475 m), the Plattspitzen , the Gatterlköpf and the Gatterl .
The first traditional ascent took place in 1874 by Hermann von Barth from the Zugspitzplatt (Normalweg, I).
In the ski area on the Zugspitzplatt, Bayerische Zugspitzbahn Bergbahn AG operated the "Wetterwandeck" double tow lift under the Wetterwandeck until the end of the 2011/12 winter season (altitude: 2400-2700 m, length: 1200 m, transport capacity: 1200 people per hour). At the beginning of the 2012/13 winter season, this system was replaced by a detachable 6- seater chairlift (67 six-seater chairs, length: 1476 meters, height difference: 287 meters, transport capacity: 2200 people per hour, according to the manufacturer, a maximum of 2800 people per hour) was inaugurated on December 4, 2012. There is also a ski area at the southern foot of the mountain, operated by the Ehrwalder Almbahnen .
