In the almost four-year phase of the open-ended process, a total of around 120,000 euros are available. During the conception and development phase in 2013 and 2014, a core group of young people was formed who set up a base station. The implementation phase of the research project will take place in 2015 and 2016. Whether the project will continue thereafter is open-ended and also depends on the Metro Group as the property owner. At the end of 2015, the city of Hanover announced that it would seek the right of first refusal for the site in order to secure the project. The project is intended to provide new insights into urban redevelopment and serves to clarify various research questions from "Jugend.Stadt.Labor", for example how young people network as spatial developers , which projects they develop and which partnerships they enter into on site. With the open structure of the project, interested citizens are also able to participate in the cultural and social offers of the project.

The location of the Hanover space project is a fallow land previously used as a parking lot with the dimensions of around 30 × 100 meters on an arterial road in the Linden-Mitte district . It is located in the Lindener Hafen industrial park between the Westschnellweg and the port facilities at the end of the Hanover-Linden branch canal . The site is owned and leased by the Metro Group . The starting point for the project was a skate park built by skaters themselves on a neighboring wasteland , from which the idea of a container village developed. After the project application was submitted in September 2013 and the approval, the project began in 2014 with the creation of a base station in the form of a large container, the roof of which was converted into a terrace and which functions as a meeting point and viewing point. Since then, the container village, which does not allow residential use, is under construction with the gradual settlement of uses. Currently (2015) it comprises around 20 used containers , some of which are stacked on top of each other. They are often individually redesigned and provided with doors and windows. People between the ages of 16 and 35, mainly design students, artists and musicians, are involved in the implementation of the project.

The containers are used by local groups and individuals for cultural and leisure activities as well as experimentally. The project also allows for user-supported commercial developments by creative young people, for example as a garage company . Usage projects include a sewing studio, a café, a facility for audio-visual computer art, a wood workshop and a tattoo studio . Occasional music and theater performances take place on an event stage.
