Pleasant Thomas Miller (also Pleasant T. Miller , PT Miller ; born July 24, 1875 in Bell County , Texas , † November 1975 in Wailuku , Maui , Hawaii ) was an American chemist .

Life

Family and education

Pleasant Thomas Miller, the third of eight children of Thomas Lively Miller (1854–1923) and his first wife, Cynthia Rosetta Ranne Miller (1854–1891), completed a teacher training course before studying chemistry at the University of Texas at Austin turned to, in 1918 he earned the academic degree of a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts . Postgraduate studies took him from 1925 to 1926 and from 1928 to 1929 at the University of Chicago .

The Baptist Pleasant Thomas Miller married Lynn Etta Witt on August 15, 1900. The marriage resulted in the sons Robert Bruce and Thomas Harold. Miller died in November 1975 at the age of 100 in Wailuku, Maui.

Professional background

Miller held teaching positions from 1896 to 1897 at Rural Schools in Bell County, from 1898 to 1899 at the Village School in Killeen , from 1900 to 1902 at Temple High School in Temple and from 1902 to 1906 at Austin High School in Austin . Pleasant Thomas then moved to the Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos as a Teacher of Chemistry and Physics . In 1918 he followed a call as Professor of Chemistry at the University of Wyoming in Laramie , in 1929 he was appointed Dean of Arts, in 1946 he was retired .

The Freemason and staunch Democrat supporter Pleasant Thomas Miller, recognized capacity in the field of general chemistry , was a member of the American Chemical Society , the American Association for the Advancement of Science , the Colorado-Wyoming Academy of Sciences, in the United States academic honorary societies Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi and in the scientific association Sigma Xi .
