Plemo (real name: Henning Schmidt ; born July 1, 1973 in Arnsberg ) is a musician from the Hamburg electro scene around the independent label Audiolith Records, founded by Lars Lewerenz . In addition to his work as a musician, Plemo also works as a producer and remixer. He also used to work as a mixer for the Hamburg band Tomte . He performed live with the formation "RPM Lovesystem".

Life

After a few projects (Atemur 1992–1999, Uhrtick 1998–1999, RY30 1999–2002), Henning Schmidt, who was born in Sauerland, adopted the pseudonym Plemo in 1999 . The idea and artistic approach was to “generate music that sounds so that small plastic figures would like to dance to it”.

The first live appearances followed in 2000. In Hamburg's Schiller Opera, the entire stage was converted into an office. Plemo as the unpleasant boss of the office community raps and sings to the music generated by the computer, coffee brewed with beer is drunk with the help of the keyboards and finally all the equipment is dismantled with an ax. This unusual mixture of electronic music and absurd live performance developed into Plemo's trademark.

Through his job as a mixer at Tomte, he came into contact with their guitarist Dennis Becker , who founded the indie label Cobretti together with the Hamburg artist Der Tante Renate , on which Plemo's first EP "Fahrradfahren" was released in 2001 . The online music community Micromusic.net establishes contact with other artists of the genre, such as Egotronic or Räuberhöhle , and a collaboration with them. During this time he also met Lars Lewerenz, the founder of the Hamburg indie label Audiolith, where Plemo publishes from now on.

In 2004 the first Plemo album Yeah was released . Initially, the album was planned to be released by Polygame Entertainment . Finally Henning Schmidt and Lars Lewerenz come to an agreement and publish the album on Audiolith. The following tour takes him to Russia together with Egotronic. During this time and with the release of “Excess Express” (2007), Plemo modified his style. In the past it was more of a Dadaist approach that the artist pursued, now the focus should be on “liberating ecstasy”, “life in the moment”, i.e. more of an expressionist approach. On the album he helps u. a. Thees Uhlmann (Tomte), Knarf Rellöm , DJ Patex , Torsun ( Egotronic ), DJ MTDF ( Saalschutz ) and Jessica Drosten ( Das Bierbeben ), he will be performed live by Arni (Juri Gagarin), miKi mikron ( Mikron 64 ) and LJ Gold, who formed the band “Das Feuer”. After Arni left, this formation was replaced in 2008 by “Plemo RPM Lovesystem”, to which the Berlin electro artist Rampue also belongs.

Pop musician Frank Zander speaks the intro on Plemo's first album Yeah . He found the music "new" and it reminded him of "music from old computer gaming machines."
