Pola Rapaport

Pola Rapaport (born May 6, 1958 in Madison ) is an American documentary filmmaker and director .

Life

She first grew up in Madison, Wisconsin, where her father, the neurologist Ionel Rapaport, worked at the university . The family later moved to New York City . There she completed her studies at the Institute for Film and Television at New York University .

As a film and sound editor, she initially worked for Maysles Films , Columbia Artists Management , National Geographic Society and others in the documentation field.

Since 1984 she has been producing her own documentaries, mostly together with her husband, the cameraman Wolfgang Held . Her main focus is on psychological issues. Her films have been shown in the USA on the PBS , Independent Film Channel , Sundance Channel and in Europe on Arte , SBS , RAI , ZDF and other broadcasters and were successful at the Sundance Film Festival , Toronto International Film Festival , FIPA in Rotterdam, the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen , IDFA Amsterdam and South by Southwest .

Rapaport was also a juror at the Newport International Film Festival in Rhode Island and the Festival International de Programs Audiovisuels 2005 in Biarritz .
