Polycyclohexylenedimethylene terephthalate ( abbreviation PCT) is a thermoplastic polyester obtained by polycondensation of terephthalic acid and 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol occurs (CHDM). The chemical structure is thus similar to polyethylene terephthalate (PET), with which it shares properties such as dimensional stability and chemical resistance. In addition, PCT is particularly temperature and hydrolysis resistant. At 285 ° C, the melting point is about 30 ° C higher than that of PET. Well-known trade names are Thermx ( Ticona ) and Eastar ( Eastman ).

application

Polycyclohexylenedimethylene terephthalate is dimensionally stable at higher temperatures (briefly up to 256 ° C), which makes the material suitable for the injection molding of thin-walled molded parts. PCT is often used for electronic components, such as plug connections . PCT is also processed into filaments , fibers and fabrics that are used as filters in industry, among other things. For other areas of application, the color stability and lower density are advantageous.
