Pons de Lauzières de Cardaillac, Marquis de Thémines (* 1553 - † November 1, 1627 Auray ) was a Marshal of France .

biography

Pons de Lauzières was the second son of Jean, Seigneur de Lauzières, de Ceyras et de Thémines , governor of Béziers , and Anne de Puymissons. As a 17-year-old he served under Henri I. de Montmorency in the wars in Languedoc . As seneschal and governor of the Quercy under Henry IV , he prevented the supporters of the Catholic League from establishing themselves in the Rouergue or the Haut-Languedoc . During the 8th Huguenot War, he forced the opposing side to lift the siege of Villemur (1592, the Duke of Joyeuse was killed). On January 5, 1597 he was Chevalier de l'Ordre du Saint-Esprit .

Under the reign of Maria de 'Medici , in 1616 he imprisoned Henri II. De Bourbon, prince de Condé , one of the most important leaders of the opposition to the Concino Concinis government, and received the marshal's baton in recognition on September 1, 1616.

In 1621 he was one of the commanders of the royal army at the siege of Montauban ; he served under Henri de Mayenne , who fell in the siege on September 20, 1621 - as did his two sons. In 1622 he took part in the siege of Saint-Antonin .

On July 3, 1626 he was appointed governor of Brittany , which was confirmed on January 19, 1627. He died in Auray that same year after receiving complaints from the Parlement of Brittany about unrest committed by his soldiers. He was buried in Cahors .

In his second marriage, he married Marie de la Noue, widow of Seigneur de Chambray and Joachim de Bellengreville, Grand Prévôt de France, daughter of François de la Noue, dit Bras-de-Fer , and Marguerite de Telligny in September 1622. This marriage left no offspring.
