The Pont du Morbihan is a road bridge near La Roche-Bernard in the Morbihan department in the French region of Brittany . It leads the four-lane route national 165 from Nantes to Brest between the municipalities of Nivillac and Marzan over the river Vilaine . Because of its transport policy importance as "entry" into the department of the same name, it was called Pont du Morbihan .
location
The bridge is located approx. 900 m upriver from the older suspension bridge Pont de La Roche-Bernard and thus leads long-distance traffic north past the place.
construction
The 376 m long and 20.3 m wide Pont du Morbihan is a reinforced concrete - arch bridge m with a span of 201 and an elevated track support of a composite structure. At the two edges of the arch there is a staircase for pedestrians so that they can cross the Vilaine, as the RN 165 is only intended for road traffic.
The arch consists of two 27 hollow box concrete segments, each 3.90 m long, each weighing approx. 100 t, and one end segment 0.80 m long. Each element is 8.25 m wide; the height varies between 3.50 m in the lower part and 2.90 m in the top. The 20.30 m wide cover plate is a composite structure made of steel and reinforced concrete. There are four lanes on it. The plate rests on the arch by means of pillars at a distance of 32 to 36 m.
