Pontiac is the county seat of Livingston County in the US state of Illinois . In the 2000 census, the population was 11,864.

The Pontiac population of 11,864 people found in the 2000 census lived in 4,139 households; including 2,619 families. The population density was 874 per km ². 4,379 residential units were recorded in the village, 4,139 of which were inhabited. Among the population were 85.4% White, 10.9% African American, 0.2% American Indian, 0.4% Asian, and 2.1% from other races; 1.0% said they belonged to several ethnic groups.
Of the 4,319 households, 31.9% had children under the age of 18; 31.6% were single households. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 3.00.
The population was divided into 22.9% under 18 years of age, 10.6% from 18 to 24 years of age, 32.7% from 25 to 44 years of age, 20.3% from 45 to 64 years of age and 13.5% from 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years.
