Pace Bradley is on his way to sign up with the Navy Seals when he picks up the hitchhiker Tracy. After a night of love together at the motel , Pace discovers that Tracy has run away with his car and money. As he hitchhiked on, he was picked up by Ben Johnson, who works in a posh beach club, who gave him a job as a temporary lifeguard. When he arrives at the club, the handsome Pace immediately catches the attention of some women like the handsome Vicky and the married Noreen, while Ben warns him about the criminal Tony Scarlotti, who launders money for the Colombian drug mafia. At an evening party, Noreen tries to pick up Pace at the bar, but Vicky manages to take him with her under a pretext and animate him to have a nap in the jacuzzi . Pace becomes aware of Miranda, Tony Scarlotti's wife, but lets herself be seduced by Noreen. Ben warns him not to get involved with Miranda, and at first she is extremely brittle towards Pace. In the meantime, there is tension between Pace and Scarlotti as the latter treats him like an errand boy. But when he gets a cramp while swimming and almost drowns he is saved by Pace, whereupon he becomes much friendlier. He even offers him a job on his ship, where Pace discovers evidence that a murder took place there. When Miranda, who likes alcohol too often, is beaten by Scarlotti, Pace orders Pace to bring her back to the club. There Pace offers her help, but Miranda arrogantly refuses, whereupon Pace kisses her. She slaps him on the face, but then they sleep together. In the further course, Pace is drawn deeper and deeper into Scarlotti's criminal machinations, which he participates in to help Miranda, despite warnings from Ben. Nevertheless, he gives him his pendant as a good luck charm just in case. In the meantime, Pace and Miranda sleep together several times and Pace conceives of Scarlotti's plan to steal money that he puts in coffins in the sea to run away with Miranda. With the help of Noreen, who alerts the Coast Guard when Scarlotti calls Pace for a job, Pace manages to escape the ship with a bag of money before Scarlotti, who discovered his relationship with Miranda and his betrayal, can shoot him , shortly afterwards he was mortally wounded by the Coast Guard himself. On the beach, Pace meets Miranda but also Ben, who reveals himself to be an undercover police officer who was assigned to Scarlotti. With the help of a tracking device in Ben's chain, they were able to track down Scarlotti's boat, and Ben then says goodbye without confiscating the money stolen from Pace. Pace and Miranda stay behind and find that this is not the right time for either of them to be in a relationship, so they split up with the option of seeing each other again once Pace finishes his Navy Seals training.
