PornoTube is an online video portal that only offers erotic and pornographic content. Initially the services were free, but now you have to become a member in order to use the full range of the site. The operator of PornoTube is an Internet service provider in Charlotte , North Carolina ( USA ), which also hosts the web portal for its web portal from there. The owner of the web address pornotube.com is the company Adult Entertainment Broadcast Network (AEBN), which claims to be the world's largest internet provider for video-on-demand and a pioneer of the micropayment application (“pay-per-minute”).

The portal was founded in February 2006. The basic concept was that every (adult) person should be able to view and upload video clips , images and audio files with erotic and / or pornographic content free of charge . In 2006, PornoTube posted a 1,200 percent increase in click figures. According to the (controversial and unrepresentative) ranking by Alexa.com , the website was one of the 200 most visited websites worldwide in 2007 (mid-October 2007 = 169th). According to an article in Max magazine in August 2007, Pornotube was clicked 14 million times a day, and every 50th visitor came from Germany or Austria.

Reception in the media

criticism

The portal was criticized for the fact that there is no effective age control, but only the age is requested. In July 2007, the Association of Video Libraries (IVD) therefore asked the Commission for the Protection of Minors in the Media to block these and similar sites for German Internet users.
