Poroma is a town in the Chuquisaca department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Poroma is the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Poroma in the province of Oropeza . The village is located in an inaccessible mountain region at an altitude of 2332  m on the left bank of the Río Poroma , which continues over the Río Exaltación and Río San Pedro into the Río Grande . The mountain ranges to the left and right of the Río Poroma, which run from northwest to southeast, reach heights of over 3200 m near the village of Poroma.

Poroma is located on the northeast edge of the Cordillera Central , the climate is semi-arid and a typical time of day climate , in which the mean temperature fluctuation during the day is more pronounced than the seasonal temperature fluctuation.

The average temperature of the region is around 17 ° C (see Poroma climate diagram) and fluctuates over the course of the year between almost 14 ° C in July and 19 ° C from November to January. Poroma is 98 kilometers by road north of Sucre , the capital of the department.

From Sucre, an unpaved road leads between the old airport in the west and the Dinosaur Park in the east in a northerly direction and in its first section moves up to more than 3000 m. After forty kilometers, it crosses the Río Maran Mayu at an altitude of 2300 m and climbs in serpentines again to an altitude of over 3000 m. The apex of the road is ten kilometers before Poroma at more than 3200 m, so that the road has to overcome another height difference of 900 m on this last section.
