Portrait by phone
Portrait by phone was a television broadcast of the German television station or the television of the GDR . The monthly broadcast with a duration of 45 minutes, of which a total of 254 episodes were broadcast, was one of the most popular productions on GDR television. In the program, which was always broadcast live , the presenter Heinz Florian Oertel , who mainly worked as a sports commentator, spoke with well-known personalities in the GDR.
The first edition of the series ran on October 28, 1969 in the 2nd program of the DFF under the broadcast title "Portrait without title". From the second broadcast on November 9, 1969, the title was “Portrait by phone” until the end of the series. Sometimes this program is also mentioned as the first edition of the series. The eponymous specialty of the show was the possibility for viewers to call while the show was running and to ask questions to the guests via staff working in the telephone booths in the studio. The short musical interludes were in the hands of the pianists Hasso Veit and later Harry Heinze . Another feature of the show was the autograph wall in the background, on which all guests left their signature at the end of the show. This wall was disposed of in a landfill after the GDR television was closed . In 1990 the series was discontinued.
