Possenhain from the east, Schönburg (Saale)

Possenhain is a district of the municipality of Schönburg in the Burgenland district in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

Possenhain is east of Schönburg in the Saale valley . The Kötschbach, a tributary of the Saale, runs east of the village.

history

When describing the district of Burgwards Schönburg belonging to the bishopric of Naumburg / Zeitz , the villages of Ober-, Mittel- and Unter-Possenhain were mentioned in a document from Margrave Dietrich von Landsberg in 1278 . The place name is a combination of two words for ruler and holy grove. He was supposed to point out earlier that a clan leader was resident in the village. After two villages fell into desolation in the late Middle Ages , the remaining town of Possenhain with the villages of Schönburg and parts of Gröbitz and Plotha belonged to the Schönburg office of the Naumburg family .

In 1544 Possenhain came with the office of Schönburg to the newly established Naumburg office of the Naumburg , with which it belonged to the Electorate of Saxony since 1564 and to the Albertine secondary school principality of Saxony-Zeitz between 1656/57 and 1718 . By the resolutions of the Vienna Congress Poss grove 1815 came to Prussia and in 1816 the county Naumburg in the administrative district of Merseburg of the Province of Saxony assigned to which he belonged until 1944th

On July 1, 1950, Possenhain was incorporated into Schönburg.
