The Potsdamer Sport-Union is a German sports club from Potsdam . The home of the club is the Templiner Strasse sports facility.

history

Union Potsdam was founded on February 13, 1904 as a football club under the name Potsdamer FC Union. In the early years, his venue was the small parade ground. In 1910 the association was entered in the register of associations of the Royal District Court of Potsdam. In 1912, today's home was built on Templiner Strasse. In 1918 the club merged with the men's gymnastics club in 1860 to form the Potsdamer Turn- und Sport-Union 1860. The gymnasts were spun off on April 10, 1924 and the club was called the Potsdamer Sport-Union 04.

In 1945 the club was dissolved and re-established as SG Potsdam-Süd. With the entry of the sports association Empor as a sponsoring company , the loose sports group subsequently renamed BSG Konsum Potsdam (May 1949), which was renamed BSG Empor Südwest Potsdam on August 8, 1951. In 1955, BSG Empor Südwest Potsdam merged with the HO- supported BSG Empor Nordost Potsdam to form BSG Empor Potsdam. The BSG Empor now had the following sections: football, since 1952 hockey and chess and since the merger table tennis , swimming , gymnastics , gymnastics , badminton , water hiking , handball and volleyball .

On July 23, 1990, the club was re-established under its historical name Potsdamer Sport-Union 04. In 1992 the chess section broke away from the association and founded the Empor Potsdam chess club in 1952.

Football department

At the sporting level, the Union acted until 1932 within the Association of Berlin Ball Game Clubs and the Association of Brandenburg Ball Game Clubs in the Oberliga Berlin (VBB), which was consistently held with secured midfield positions. With the relegation in 1932 Union Potsdam missed the qualification for the Gauliga Berlin-Brandenburg .

Empor Potsdam played with short interruptions until 1967 in the third or. fourth class district league Potsdam . Subsequently, the BSG sank into the insignificance of GDR football. The club, which always played under-class, had to withdraw for one season in 1997 due to a lack of players. For the 2009/10 season Union Potsdam has again signed off from the Havelland-Mitte district league.
