The Pottaschtalhütte - often as Böchinger hut called - is a cultivated refuge of the local association Böchingen the Palatinate Forest Association in the Palatinate Forest ..

location

The hut is located in the eponymous Pottasch Valley in the Middle Palatinate Forest on a clearing within the boundaries of the Böchinger Forest . The latter forms an exclave of the local community of Böchingen . The closest settlements are Eusserthal and Ramberg (Pfalz) . The Pottasch valley forms a side valley of the Eußerbach , which is called Katzenbach in its upper course in the area of the hut . The Ramburg and Harzofenberg are also in the vicinity .

history

The area called Böchinger Wald came to the eponymous municipality of Böchingen in the course of the Haingeraide . Its inhabitants used this territory to produce potash . Accordingly, the hut served the workers while they were doing their work. In the course of an administrative reform, forest offices took over the corresponding work. As a result, the hut became inoperable and was accordingly empty. In 1972 it was taken over by the local group Böchingen of the Palatinate Forest Association . She converted this into a hiking hut. In 2011 the roof was renovated. A year later, the Palatinate Forest Association celebrated the 40th anniversary of taking over the hut.

Operation and property

The hut is run voluntarily on Sundays by members of the Palatinate Forest Association from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There is a main building, and an auxiliary building is also used when there are high numbers of visitors. There are also outdoor seating and a children's playground.

Connection

A hiking trail marked with a red dot leads over the Pottaschtalhütte . In a westerly direction it leads over the Almersberg to Rinnthal and in the east to Ramberg. In addition, there are two circular hiking trails in the catchment area of the hut that are around six kilometers long. There is also an access road from Eusserthal, which can only be used to a limited extent.
