Poverty's Paradise ( English for: poverty paradise ) is the fourth studio album by the US rap group Naughty by Nature . It was released on May 2, 1995 on the Tommy Boy Records label .

Twelve songs on the album were produced by Naughty by Nature itself. Two beats are from Minnesota, while Brice and Kid Nyce each produced an instrumental. Many songs also contain samples of pieces by other artists.

Cover design

The album cover is in black and white and shows the three band members who are in a dark room and looking at the viewer. In the lower part of the picture are the white lettering Naughty by Nature and Poverty's Paradise .

In addition to Naughty by Nature, other artists appear on six of the 21 tracks on the album. The rappers Road Dawgs and Cruddy Click have three guest contributions and the rap group Rottin Razkals can be heard on two songs. In addition, singer Gordon Chambers and rapper Kandi Kain are each featured on a song, while basketball player Chris Webber can be heard in a skit .

Poverty's Paradise entered the German album charts at number 97 on June 12, 1995 and left the top 100 the following week before entering the charts again on June 26, 1995, reaching the highest position at number 39. Overall, the album stayed in the top 100 for eight weeks. In the United States, the record took third place and stayed in the charts for 18 weeks.

Three songs on the album were released as singles . Of these, the song Feel Me Flow was particularly successful, reaching number 17 in the US charts and receiving a gold record for more than 500,000 sales . In addition, the tracks Clap Yo Hands and Craziest (US # 51) were released as singles.

Sales figures and awards

Poverty's Paradise sold more than 500,000 copies in the United States and was therefore awarded a gold record in the year of publication .

At the 1996 Grammy Awards , the album received its first award in the newly introduced Best Rap Album category .
