Poxau is a part of the municipality of Marklkofen in the Lower Bavarian district of Dingolfing-Landau . Until 1971 it formed an independent municipality.

location

Poxau is about a kilometer north of Marklkofen and a little southeast of Steinberg above the Vilstal .

history

The Lords of Poxau, whose ancestral castle was in Poxau, also ruled Marklkofen from 1293 to 1488, as they had rich relationships with the ducal court in Landshut . In the 18th century the orphaned castle hill was converted into a calvary. The Calvary and the Chapel with the Holy Sepulcher have long been the destination of many pilgrims.

From the Hofmark Poxau, which was last in the hands of the Freiherrn von Fraunhofen, the Freiherr von Fraunhofensche Patrimonialgericht Poxau emerged at the beginning of the 19th century , which was subordinate to the Landau an der Isar regional court . The properties were sold to interested parties. The castle of the barons of Fraunhofen, along with real estate, was donated to the poor school sisters vULFr. over with the condition to also establish a school in it.

The municipality of Poxau in the district of Dingolfing has had the jumping goat, which the Poxauers acquired as an aristocratic coat of arms in 1532, in the municipal coat of arms. On April 1, 1971, the municipality of Poxau came to Marklkofen as part of the regional reform . The jumping goat from the coat of arms can be found today as a fountain figure in front of the town hall in Marklkofen.

In November 2006 the castle was donated back to Count Christoph von Soden-Fraunhofen in Neufraunhofen , as the operation, most recently a vocational school for child care, could no longer be maintained by the poor school sisters. The castle now serves as a meeting, cultural and educational center.

From 1876 to 1969 Poxau had its own rail connection on the Mühldorf-Pilsting line.
