Church of St. Kliment

The Prácheň (German Prachin , also Prachen or Prachiner Berg ) is a 504 m high wooded mountain in the Czech Republic . It is located one and a half kilometers southwest of the town of Horažďovice on the cadastre of Velké Hydčice in the Bavorovská vrchovina.

The Prácheň rises to the right above the steep valley of the Otava , which flows around the mountain in the west and north. The ruins of the Prácheň Castle are located on the top of the Prácheň . To the south of this is the Church of St. Clement. The entire oak and hornbeam forest area around the Prácheň has been protected as the Prácheň nature reserve on an area of ​​28.5 hectares since 1953. The ridge continues to the south with the Pučanka (516 m), Moučanka (559 m) and the Svitník (591 m).

Surrounding places are Nový Dvůr in the north, Zářečí and Horažďovice in the northeast, the farm Prácheň in the east, Svaté Pole and Boubín in the southeast, Velké Hydčice, Malé Hydčice and Hliněný Újezd ​​in the southwest, Týnec in the west and Malý Bor in the northwest.

Prácheň Castle

In the 10th century a wooden Slavic castle was built on the Prácheň, which in 1045, as the center of the Prachin district, was counted among the main Bohemian castles. In their place, Bavor III. von Strakonitz build a stone castle around 1315. The castle has been in desolation since 1558.

Church of St. Kliment

The Church of St. According to tradition, Kliment was the ninth Christian church in Bohemia and was dated by St. Method of Salonica . It was the church of the village of Prácheň, which was laid out together with the castle and which became extinct during the Hussite Wars . The graves of the writer Josef Pavel and the local historian Karel Němec are located in the cemetery around the church.

Because of the deciduous forest, the Prácheň offers only few opportunities for viewing. On the road to the cemetery there is a lookout point with a view to the east. The view of the Otava valley only exists after the leaves have fallen.
