2008 presidential elections in Zambia
The 2008 presidential elections in Zambia took place on October 30, 2008 in the South African country of Zambia . The elections were an early direct election of the Zambian President, held within a constitutionally required period of 90 days after the death of Levy Mwanawasa , who died on August 19 .
According to statements by election observers from the South African Development Community (SADC) , the presidential elections in Zambia were free and fair.
The winner was the 71-year-old Rupiah Banda with a narrow margin over his competitor Michael Sata of the same age .
