Prairie City is a city in Grant County in the US state of Oregon .

Prairie City is located on the upper reaches of the John Day River , about 20 kilometers east of County Seat Canyon City , at an altitude of 1,080 meters. US Highway 26 runs through the town .
The city has an area of 2.57 km², excluding land.
Demographics
According to the 2010 United States Census , Prairie City had 909 inhabitants, of which 448 were men and 461 were women. 201 residents were under 20 years old, 111 were 65 or older.
