Pran Nath (physicist)

Pran Nath (born September 9, 1939 in Panjab , then British India, now Pakistan ) is an Indian-American theoretical physicist . He is a professor at Northeastern University in Boston .

Nath studied at the University of Delhi , where he received a bachelor's degree in 1958 and a master's degree in 1960 . In 1964 he received his doctorate from Stanford University . As a post-doctoral student , he worked at the University of California, Riverside and the University of Pittsburgh (as a so-called Mellon Fellow ). In 1966 he became an assistant professor and has been a full professor at Northeastern University since 1975, where he is the Matthews Distinguished Professor of Physics. He has also been a visiting scholar at CERN and at the Universities of Bonn, Heidelberg and Munich, at the University of California, Santa Barbara and at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Mumbai .

He deals professionally with theoretical elementary particle physics and in particular with GUTs , supersymmetry and also supergravity , where he is one of the pioneers.

In 1982, together with Richard Arnowitt and Ali Chamseddine, he developed a minimal supergravity model (mSUGRA) as a realistic model for supergravity. He has been a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science since 1990 and received the Humboldt Research Award in 2002 . Nath also became a fellow of the American Physical Society in 1978 .
