The Pratt & Whitney R-2000 (also Pratt & Whitney Twin Wasp ) is an air-cooled aircraft engine from the US manufacturer Pratt & Whitney . The double radial engine with 2 × 7 cylinders and radial compressor (compressor) was an enlarged version of the Pratt & Whitney R-1830 developed ten years earlier . The displacement of 2000 cubic inches (32.8 liters) was achieved by enlarging the bore by ¼ inch . The P&W R-2000 was mainly used in the Douglas DC-4, especially the military version C-54 Skymaster , as well as used in the De Havilland Canada DHC-4 Caribou . The first flight took place in 1942.
Of the civilian versions, the 2SD-G, 2SD1-G, D3, D5 and 2SD13-G versions were produced in series. The D6 version was designed for helicopters, where the motor, equipped with a fan for forced cooling and a modified lubricating oil circuit for dry sump lubrication , is installed at an angle or vertically.
