Preslav Mantchev

Preslav Mantchev (born July 29, 1974 in Sofia ) is a Bulgarian ballet dancer and choreographer .

Life

Mantchev completed dance training from 1985 to 1993 at the State Ballet School for Choreography and Classical Dance in Sofia, where he was a student of Peter Koldamov, among others. During his training he took part in various dance competitions.

In 1989 he took part in the International Ballet Competition in Paris , and in 1991 in the International Ballet Competition in Lausanne . In 1992 he was a finalist and recipient of the special prize of the Academie Nationale des Arts Paris at the International Ballet Competition in Varna . In 1995 he was a finalist at the Masako Ohia Ballet Competition in Osaka .

From 1993 to 1996 Mantchev was a soloist at the Sofia National Opera. During this time, tours took him to Germany , Austria , Switzerland and Cyprus .

From 1996 to 1999 Mantchev was engaged as a solo dancer at the Stadttheater Bern under the direction of Martin Schläpfer . During this time he worked in choreographies by Martin Schläpfer, Hans van Manen, Kurt Joos, George Balanchine, Jim Vincent, Ricarda Regina Ludigkeit, and Felix Dumeril.

From 1999 to 2002 he was a soloist with the Mainz Ballet at the Stadttheater Mainz , again under the direction of Martin Schläpfer, where he performed in choreographies by Martin Schläpfer, Hans van Manen, Nils Christe, George Balanchine, Samuel Wursten, Gisela Rocha, Stijn Celis, Nicolo Fonte, Evelyne Castellino, Nick Hobbs performed.

Since the 2003/2004 season, Mantchev has been a soloist with Ballett Kiel at Theater Kiel under the direction of Mario Schröder. There he performed with great success as gang leader Bernardo in the musical West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein .

Often Mantchev also appears in artistic projects that combine elements of dance with singing and choir . In 2008 he performed in one such scenic project at the Hamburger Kampnagelfabrik together with the Rundfunkchor Berlin . In addition, Mantchev appeared in April 2009 in the scenic music theater The Story of the Soldier by Igor Fyodorovich Stravinsky , which also combines various artistic elements such as music, drama and dance.

In 2009 he performed with the ensemble of Ballett Kiel at the 7th North German Dance Meeting in Kiel .

Mantchev designed his own choreographies as part of the "Phase" series at the Schauspielhaus Kiel . In 2006 his dance project Samota was premiered. Mantchev has designed other own choreographies since 2007 as part of the dance event series DansArt . In his choreographies, Mantchev often works with religious motifs.
