Preying with the parish church

The parish village of Preying is part of the municipality of Saldenburg in the Lower Bavarian district of Freyung-Grafenau .

geography

Preying is in the east of Saldenburg next to the B 85 and north of Tittling .

history

The place got its name after the holy Brigida of Kildare , from which already in the 14th century “St. Preiden ”and later“ Preying ”became. Ritter Tuschl von Söldenau donated a benefit here in 1366 and transferred it to the Altenmarkt monastery . From there Preying was looked after until the monastery was dissolved in 1783. Politically, Preying has belonged since 1818 to the independent municipality of Lembach , established with the Bavarian municipal edict of 1818 , which was incorporated into Saldenburg on January 1, 1972.

The present church was probably built in the second half of the 15th century, a late Gothic vaulted building with a tower to the west. The painting on the high altar from 1673 shows the church patroness, the side altars date from the middle of the 18th century. Also worth mentioning are a late Gothic Madonna and a group of thirds from around 1520. In 1786 the benefice was elevated to a vicariate , and in 1879 it was elevated to a parish . The parish church was fundamentally renovated in 2007-2009 and equipped with geothermal underfloor heating. On March 14, 2010, Bishop Wilhelm Schraml from Passau finally consecrated the new Eisenbarth organ with 22 registers.

War memorial in Preying

The war memorial in Preying names those who died in the First and Second World War, including infantryman Mathias Ebner (killed in the Battle of Neuve-Chapelle on March 12, 1915 ) and Deputy Infantry Sergeant Josef Liebl (died on September 9, 1916 in the Fighting for Ginchy , part of the Battle of the Somme ).

The actual Preying was still a hamlet in 1855 , in which apart from the church there were only two houses. The parish vicar lived in the eastern village of Ebersdorf. In 1989 the parish of Preying had 922 Catholics. The Preying volunteer fire brigade was founded in 1865, the TSV Preying on May 31, 1931 (as FC Preying, renamed 1951). The Preying school is a branch of the Thurmansbang elementary school and now houses a primary school.
