description

Appearance and foliage leaf

Primula scandinavica grows as a perennial , herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 4 to 10 (rarely up to 15) centimeters with the inflorescence shafts. Many parts of the plant are floury dusted.

The leaves stand together in basal rosettes . The simple leaf blade is 1 to 5 centimeters long and 0.4 to 1.5 centimeters wide and elliptical, oblong or spatulate. The spreading margins are whole and slightly serrated towards the upper end. The underside of the leaves is usually rich in floury pollination.

Inflorescence and flower

Primula scandinavica forms one to two (rarely four) inflorescence shafts that end with two to eight-flowered (rarely up to ten-flowered) inflorescences . The provided with stems 1-5 millimeters in length mealy bracts are lanceolate, at the base almost sack-shaped and 5 to 8 millimeters long.

The hermaphroditic flowers are radial symmetry and five-fold with a double flower envelope . The five sepals are fused to form a 5 to 6 millimeter long, angular and floury calyx with blunt calyx tips. The diameter of the 9 to 12 (rarely up to 15) millimeters large crown consists of five dark purple to delicate purple colored petals with a red and rarely white throat. The corolla tube is about one and a half times as long as the chalice. The scar is spherical. Homostyly is present (the species only develops one type of flower).

Fruit and seeds

The number of seeds bearing fruit capsule is as long as the cup or projects beyond this.

Chromosome number

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 72.

Occurrence

Primula scandinavica is native to Norway and Sweden . It is a lime-loving plant and colonizes habitats such as grassy mountain slopes in alpine and subalpine altitudes , rocky and sandy coastal regions and areas along rivers and streams as well as pastureland.

Danger

Primula scandinavica is listed by the IUCN in the Red List of Threatened Species and classified as low endangered (NT - Near Threatened). Both Sweden and Norway have this species on their national red lists.

The European Union lists this species in the Habitats Directive in Appendix II and thus obliges the member states to create protected areas.

Systematics

Primula scandinavica was in 1938 by Helga Gösta Bruun in Svensk Botanisk Tidskrift Utgifven af Svenska Botaniska Foreningen , Volume 32, page 249 firstdescribed .

Like the widespread flour primrose ( Primula farinosa ), the species belongs to the Aleuritia section and the Aleuritia subgenus .
