Pristin ( Korean 프리스틴 , stylized spelling PRISTIN , formerly Pledis Girlz ) was a South Korean girl group founded by Pledis Entertainment in 2016 . The group officially debuted on March 21, 2017 with the mini-album Hi! Pristine. Just like Seventeen , who are also under contract with Pledis Entertainment, Pristin are heavily involved in the creation of her music and the choreographies. The group's official fan club name is "High" . The dissolution of the group was announced on May 24, 2019.
history
2016: Foundation as Pledis Girlz
On March 23, 2016 the official Twitter account of the Pledis Girls was opened and a first group photo was published. Seven of the ten members were already known to the public through their participation in the TV show "Produce 101". Initially only eight girls took part in the preparations for their debut, because Nayoung and Kyulkyung successfully completed “Produce 101” and became part of the girl group IOI . From May to September, the Pledis Girlz, with the exception of Nayoung and Kyulkyung, held weekly concerts to further increase their popularity.
On June 27th, the advance single We was released for download. The song was written by some members of the group themselves. In the video for We , the girls' profiles were used to introduce them. Nayoung and Kyulkyung do not appear in the video, they are only shown in a photo at the beginning.
2017: debut with Hi! Pristine
On January 6, 2017, at their last concert as Pledis Girlz, the group's official name, Pristin , was announced. On March 21, the group officially debuted with the mini album Hi! Pristin and the single Wee Woo . On May 19, the second single from the album was released: Black Widow . On Hi! Pristin also includes a new version of the title We , in which all ten members can be heard.
On August 6th, the group announced their official fan club name: "High" .
On August 23, the second mini-album Schxxl Out was released together with the single We Like .
On October 12, Pledis Entertainment announced that Kyla would be taking a hiatus due to health problems and would go to live with her family in the United States until she recovered.
2018–2019: Pristin V and dissolution
On May 8, 2018, Pristin V was announced as the first subgroup. The group consisted of the members Nayoung, Roa, Eunwoo, Rena and Kyulkyung. Pristin V released their first single album called Like a V along with the single Get It ( 네 멋대로 ) on May 28th. Like a V reached number 5 on the Gaon Album Charts.
On May 24, 2019, Pledis Entertainment announced the dissolution of Pristin in an official statement. It also said that Kyulkyung, Yehana and Sungyeon will remain with the agency. The contracts of the remaining members were canceled with immediate effect.
