Prix des lycéens allemands
The Prix des lycéens allemands ( German high school students' prize ) is a literary prize that has been awarded by the cultural department of the French embassy in Berlin , the Bureau du Livre de Jeunesse in Frankfurt am Main and the cultural ministries of the federal states since the 2004/2005 school year organized with Ernst Klett Verlag . The Prix Goncourt des lycéens in France served as a template . The award ceremony takes place at the Leipzig Book Fair .
Procedure
A selection of four contemporary youth novels is presented for the evaluation of French courses in German grammar schools . Students with at least B1 language level then have several months to read the works and study them in detail. They are supported by their French teachers. In addition, the nominated writers travel through the federal states to meet the high school students at author readings and to clarify questions.
First, each high school chooses its favorite school and a representative for the state jury. In a second step, the best book is then determined by student juries in the spring of the respective school year at the state level. At the same time, the jury of each federal state sends its most capable and competent representative as a state delegate to Leipzig to form the “federal jury”. This ultimately awards the prize for German high school students at the Leipzig Book Fair .
The award ceremony of the Prix des lycéens allemands 2017 took place in Frankfurt am Main on October 14, 2017 , as France was the 2017 guest of honor at the Frankfurt Book Fair .
Scope and aim of the award
In 2004/2005 around two hundred classes took part in the award. In 2006 around 2,700 schoolchildren took part in the project. Around 3,500 high school students have taken part every year since 2007. The aim of the award is to bring contemporary French literature closer to German high school students. Reading skills are improved, independent work in groups and critical argumentation skills are practiced and the French language and culture are discussed.
Prize money
The prize money of 5,000 euros donated by Klett-Verlag will be awarded to the best novel. Until 2010 it served to translate the work into German. It has been of direct benefit to the award winner since 2011.
