Professor Layton and the lost future ( Japanese レ イ ト ン 教授 と 最後 の 時間 旅行 , Reiton-kyōju to Saigo no Jikan Ryokō , German "Professor Layton and the last journey through time") is a puzzle game published in November 2008 (in Japan) by the Japanese Developer level 5 for the portable Nintendo DS console . The localized version for the USA was released on September 12, 2010, for Europe on October 22, 2010. It is the third title to appear in the Professor Layton series . In July 2020 it was released worldwide for mobile devices in HD.

The next game in the series, Professor Layton and the Call of the Phantom , came out in 2009.

action

The third adventure begins with a letter to Luke (the professor's apprentice) and Professor Hershel Layton - posted ten years in the future by Luke himself. In this letter Luke warns his mentor of a terrible misfortune that threatens London and is only his Let help turn away.

Could the letter be related to another event? Because a few days earlier, Prime Minister Bill Hawks disappeared after participating in the failed test of a time machine. To clarify that, the players go on a journey full of puzzles together with the professor, Luke and Flora (a girl from the first part: Professor Layton and the mysterious village).

mystery

In total there are over 165 puzzles to solve in the third part of the series. Some of these puzzles are part of the storyline and must be solved in order to advance in the game, others can also be solved after the game is over. These puzzles will be transferred to the home of an elderly lady, Grandma Enygma, and her granddaughter Lola Enygma. Initially this task is taken over by a bee named Bienke, which Lola kills with a fly swatter during the game.

If the player does not manage to solve a puzzle, he can have up to three clues given to him for one clue coin and, more recently, a “super clue” for two clue coins.

In addition to the actual storyline, there are some mini-games : After a few puzzles have been solved, the player receives stickers that can be stuck in a photo album to complete three little stories. Furthermore, it is important to collect certain elements with the Laytonmobil (the professor's vehicle). After all, a parrot that Luke gets to know during the adventure and that the player can give a name of his own choosing has the task of delivering various deliveries. For this purpose, rubber ropes are tensioned on the playing field in the correct places and angles, on which the parrot then jumps. The routes and tasks for the latter two extras are also given out after certain puzzles have been successfully solved.

After completing these extras, new puzzles will be unlocked in the bonus area (for more details see “Bonus”).

bonus

As you progress in the game, you can unlock bonus material, which can be selected in the start menu. The bonus material consists of film clips, music and pictures of the game and other tricky puzzles. You can also unlock puzzles by solving mini-game puzzles in the professor's suitcase. You can also download a new puzzle every week from Nintendo via Wi-Fi .

There is also a "secret door" section in the game, which you can open with the code from the second game.
