Game principle and technology

The game world is divided into individual locations that are unlocked as the game progresses and are then accessible to the player. The places are represented by two-dimensional, hand-drawn images. At various locations, Katrielle meets hand-drawn NPCs with whom automatic dialogues can be conducted. There are puzzles to solve in most locations, whereupon the action progresses.

At the same time, you can play mini-games, dress Katrielle or redecorate the interior of her apartment. For Katrielle you can unlock different outfits in the course of the game or you have to buy them as DLC.

Deluxe version

The deluxe version of the game for the Nintendo Switch contains compared to the versions for 3DS, iOS and Android

  • revised puzzles from the old versions, as well as over 40 new puzzles,
  • a new screen layout adapted to the new console,
  • all DLC content, i.e. outfits for Katrielle of the old versions from the start, as well
  • over 50 new unlockable outfits.

There is also a Layton Museum in the bonus area , where you can unlock images of earlier Layton games. Unlocking is done by redeeming museum points, which you get by solving puzzles of the day . These can be downloaded from the Internet.
