The Proton Putra is a coupé from the Malay car manufacturer Proton , which was built from autumn 1995 to the end of 2000.

From 2004 to 2005, production of the model was resumed for a short time, with the limited number of vehicles only being offered on the domestic market. The reason for the resumption was the processing of parts that were still in stock.

construction

Body and chassis

The car is based on the Mitsubishi Lancer, which was built from autumn 1991 to summer 1996, and is a two-door coupé , the front of which corresponds to that of the Wira and Satria of the first series. The rear, on the other hand, is independent, only the taillights correspond to those of the Satria or the Mitsubishi Lancer.

The car corresponds almost entirely to the Lancer, both in terms of styling and mechanics, as headlights and taillights are interchangeable between the two models. The Putra is, however, equipped with the four-cylinder DOHC in-line engine 4G93 and has different front fenders and bumpers, so the indicators cannot be replaced.

inner space

The interior of the Putra includes Recaro N-Joy seats, a four-spoke steering wheel Momo Daytona and a leather gear knob from Momo . These details were not included in the reprint, but the interior corresponded to the other Proton models and was black.

engine

The Putra is powered by a four-cylinder in-line Mitsubishi engine , type 4G93P, which has two overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder. The engine is fed by a multi-point injection (MPI). The capacity is 1834 cc, and the power 140 hp (103 kW) at 6000 min -1 . The torque of 164 Nm at 5500 min -1 and the gasoline consumption at an average of 6.2 l / 100 km.

export

In the UK and Australia , the Putra was offered as the Proton Coupe or Proton M21 , but the car did not sell very well there. Likewise in Germany, where it was marketed as Proton 418 LRS from 1998 to 2001 .

The Putra was considered boring in design and corresponded to the older Mitsubishi Lancer (1992-1995), as it was known to the Australians, and also uninteresting to drive compared to other, livelier cars, such as the Ford Puma or the Vauxhall Tigra .

Private modifications

Because of its small number, the Putra is in great demand in Malaysia. Some enthusiasts have modified its front with "half cuts". The M21 can be equipped with any Mitsubishi 4G9x or 4G6x engine.
