The Proton X70 is a sports utility vehicle from the Malay car manufacturer Proton . The SUV is almost identical to the Boyue from the Chinese car manufacturer Geely , which was designed by Peter Horbury , the former designer of Volvo . The biggest difference between the vehicles is the grille . In addition, the X70 is built exclusively as a right-hand drive.
history
On May 24, 2017, DRB-HICOM announced that 49.9 percent of Proton would be sold to Geely. It was also announced that the first Protons SUV would be based on the Geely Boyue. In April 2018, Proton started an online poll to vote for the name of the new SUV. The choices were PX7 , X7 , X70 and X700 . In June 2018, the manufacturer announced that the vehicles would initially be imported from China. Since February 2020, the production has been carried out as a CKD kit in Tanjung Malim, Malaysia . The vehicle and the official name were presented in September 2018. From October 17, 2018, the X70 could be reserved for RM 99 ; the market launch was finally on December 12, 2018. Between October and December 2018, over 15,000 vehicles have already been ordered.
In August 2019 Proton presented the special model Merdeka Edition, limited to 62 pieces .
From 2019 the Proton X70 will also be offered in Indonesia .
Technical specifications
Like the Geely Boyue, the car has a 135 kW (184 hp) 1.8-liter petrol engine . The vehicle is also available with a 6-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive .
With the introduction of the CKD model in February 2020, the all-wheel drive version was no longer available. In addition, a 7-speed dual clutch transmission is now used instead of the 6-speed automatic transmission .
