Matabeleland North (German North Matabeleland ) is a province of Zimbabwe with an area of 75,025 km²; and 749,017 inhabitants (2012). The provincial capital is Lupane . Hwange and Victoria Falls are the only other two cities in this province. The province borders in the northwest in a quadrangle with Namibia (by means of the Caprivi Strip ), Zambia and Botswana .
The economy in the province is shaped by tourism through the Victoria Falls of the Zambezi and the Hwange National Park , which is one of the most beautiful animal reserves in Africa. However, it is much more determined by the huge coal deposits at Hwange, which are the basis for energy generation and steel production in Zimbabwe.
