history

The first records of the Church of St. James the Elder in Prusíny date from 1365 and since 1384 it has been a parish church. During the Hussite Wars it was under the patronage of Vílem Netunický z Nebílov, who was a staunch opponent of the teachings of Jan Hus and reinstated Catholic clergy in 1425 and 1433. Eventually the pastor's office fell into disrepair and the church became a branch.

In the course of the re-catholicization of Bohemia during the Thirty Years' War, the Jakobuskirche was raised again to a parish church in 1642. Your parish included the villages Nettonitz , Nebillau , Tschischitz , Borek b. Stienowitz , Pschedenitz , Strischowitz and Hag (Háje).

In 1722, according to plans by Franz Maximilian Kaňka, on behalf of Countess Maria Theresia von Vrtba auf Žinkovy , the church and the rectory were redesigned in Baroque style for 20,000 guilders from the legacy of her father, Field Marshal Adam Heinrich von Steinau , who found his final resting place here. The tomb of the marshal was given a marble cover bearing the family coat of arms. The crypt was opened around 1800 and a description of the mortal remains of the marshal, his wife and a likely female child was made. The cemetery belonging to the church was expanded in 1905.

A one-class parish school was founded in 1774 on the edict of Maria Theresa . For the first 120 years, teaching in Prusíny was given by the Špilar family of teachers. In 1868, a new schoolhouse was inaugurated in place of the old Kaluppe, in which three-class lessons were started.

In 1906, after an expansion of the school building, four-class classes began. Since 1925 the school has served as a two-year training course for economists. The school was closed in 1980.

The former school is the seat of the ecological association "Ametyst", which wants to build ecological showpaths in the school garden area.

The Prusinské kulturní léto theater and music festival, organized by the Dominican monastery in Pilsen, takes place every September in Prusíny. A traditional parish fair is celebrated in the church.
