Psychopathia Sexualis is an American feature film of director Bret Wood from the year 2006. The film is based on sexual psychopathology , the most famous work of psychiatrist and coroner Richard von Krafft-Ebing .

Based on the descriptions of Krafft-Ebings, Wood uses several chapters to film such diverse phenomena as vampirism , masochism , necrophilia and homosexuality against the background of elaborately designed Victorian backdrops . The length of the individual chapters varies greatly, and some of them have no dialogs whatsoever.
reception
The film was judged almost exclusively negatively by the audience and critics. For example, VA Musetto wrote in the New York Post : “Sex can be fun, exciting, and wonderful. It can also be deadly boring, as in Psychopathia Sexualis . " Variety's Joe Leydon criticized the film appeared to be laborious" in its almost comically tepid portrayal of masochism, homosexuality, necrophilia and, fleetingly, cruelty to animals.
