Wojciech Zygmunt Pszoniak (born May 2, 1942 in Lemberg , † October 19, 2020 in Warsaw ) was a Polish actor .

Life

Pszoniak graduated from the Cracow Theater School in 1968 and then worked at the Stary Teatr Cracow. He celebrated stage success there in Konrad Swinarski's productions of William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream (1970) and as Verkhovensky in Dostoyevsky's The Demons (1972/73). From 1972 he had engagements in Warsaw at the Narodowy Teatr and from 1974 at the Powszechny Teatr, where he played the leading role in 1977 in Dale Wasserman's play One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest .

Pszoniak made his film debut in 1970 in Zbigniew Chmielewski's Angel Face . He played his first important roles in Andrzej Żuławski's Diabeł and Andrzej Wajda's The Wedding in 1972 . Pszoniak worked with Wajda several times, for example, under his direction he played the Jew Moryc Welt in Ziemia obiecana (1974) and Robespierre in Danton (1983) and received the Actor Award at the International Film Festival in Montreal together with Daniel Olbrychski . As a result, Pszoniak began working increasingly in Western Europe, especially in France, from the mid-1980s.
