geography

course

The Pulschnitz rises close to the watershed between the river systems of the Elbe on this side and the Rhine on the other side of a small pond in the wasteland of Neutheilung of the city of Münchberg and runs very steadily east-northeast. It flows through the Münchberger Hügelland and the city of Münchberg itself. After 11.4 km it flows to the west, opposite the hamlet of Oppenroth in the municipality of Weißdorf, from the left into the upper reaches of the Saale in Bavaria, which is also called the Saxon Saale .

Catchment area

The 28.1 km² catchment area of the Pulschnitz is part of the Münchberg plateau , part of the natural spatial main unit group Thuringian-Franconian low mountain range . It borders in turn on the catchment areas

  • the upper Selbitz in the northwest, which flows much further down into the Saale in Thuringia
  • the Ulrichsbach in the northeast, which flows into the Saale immediately after it and
  • of the Haidbach in the south, which reaches the Saale a little before it.

On the south-western and western borders, the great watershed of the Elbe river system runs on this side to that of the Rhine on the other side; it compete here

The settlement area of the small town Münchberg covers large areas around the lower middle reaches, otherwise the area is rural. The landscape is a mixture of forest and open corridors in which the grassland dominates.
